Day 29 - ECPC - Hertfordshire
2011-08-06
Date: Saturday 6th August 2011 Venue: Rat Pack Pool Club, St Albans, Hertfordshire Frame Played: 25 Frames Won: 22 Frames Running Total: 649/725 After stopping longer than usual for lunch at at Phil’s, we left by 11.30 and arrived in Waltham Cross at 1pm. With a space provided for the van and readily available electricity, setting up was quick and efficient.
The afternoon just consisted of work and while I was working Paul went for a walk, which was to become his daily routine as it got him out of the caravan and stretching his legs.
The evening’s exhibition was different to the ones we have been doing during the counties challenge because I had already done an exhibition at the club twice, so we reduced the number of frames played, and included some speedball which was fun for everyone. The amazing thing about the speedball competition is that it was won by a gentleman called Dave, otherwise known as “Dangerous Dave” but one indicated the title ‘dangerous’ was something of a joke as Dave is anything but dangerous and he certainly isn’t fast!
Or so we thought.
Dave won the speedball with a time of 1 minute and 7 seconds and the amazing thing was he never once ran, he chalked his cue at least twice and even stopped to think what shot to play next and yet beat everyone else! Amazing things do happen!
Although numbers weren’t as high as Neil and Debbie had hoped for, the main thing was it was still an enjoyable evening and that most of the funds had been raised, with only a little more to aim for. The Toms have been great supporters of our work to raise funds and I will always have the utmost respect for them, especially as they knew taking this one with their new club and an impending holiday was never going to be easy - thank you guys!
